Based on a previous phase of analysis and diagnostic, with the identification of the main vulnerabilities and potentialities of the Bairro Novo quarter, located at Figueira da Foz, one of the determining elements of the proposal was the definition of an economic strategy aimed to the prime and cultural segments of Senior Tourism, conducing both on regional and on a national context to a new dynamic on a less explored market. Set on this backdrop, the Bairro Novo urban regeneration actions include the allocation of facilitator agents centered and directed to the elderly population group; the regeneration proposal is based on the conversion of this urban core into a mixed use neighborhood that might function as an active agent in a phased revitalizing process, raising opportunities for fixing activities and new dwellers, therefore inverting the seasonality and depopulation cycles.

The general dimensioning criteria for the different spaces and equipments were organized into four strategic objectives: public space enhancement; generation of facilitator elements; enhancement of the built environment; promotion of social relations and the overall improvement of accesses and mobility.

Through the evaluation of the urban structure and the buildings of the Bairro Novo, a series of intervention degrees were set according to the conservation status, economic viability and potential to integrate the facilitator elements, both in the fields of functional revitalization and/ or volumetric integration. Likewise, five intervention typologies were equally proposed, according to the streets characteristics.
